Better Faire Organizing

Good day. I’m a big volleyball nut. I love playing the sport indoors and out. I got into the sport later than most people so I’m trying to learn all I can to keep up with players that are half my age or less.

I’ve been watching a coaches’ instructional video by Karch Kiraly. He was the Michael Jordan of volleyball before he retired. Now he coaches the women’s UCLA team. He was mentioning some of the attributes of elite athletes that have been found by studies. He said most elite athletes aren’t always watching the ball. They watch how the other team is setting up and preparing to hit the ball. They have telltale hints they give over time to do certain things.

Those of us who help organize Renfaires can do the same things. When we go to long-lived, successful faires, we can observe how tickets are sold, patrons’ questions are answered, how the events are laid out for stages, vendors, food areas, etc. We can also ask other organizers how they overcame growing pains, picked their sites, found sponsors (that’s the biggie), created their budgets, advertised (another biggie), treat their performers, vendors and patrons and much more.

There are resources out there to find these things. YouTube videos, conversations on Facebook at the Vendor/ Page, in the Forums at renaissancefestival.com and other places.

Maybe some organizers would like to meet somewhere or meet online to discuss these aspects sometime. You can find who the organizers are by sending e-mails to faires’ sites and FB pages. We are one big community. We will can bigger and stronger if we share ideas.

For your viewing pleasure, Meister's Realm Public Service Announcement # 11 is now available. Want an alternative to experiencing a Ren or Scotfest in the searing heat or bone-chilling cold? Visiting such an event from the past is the next best thing... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c3qjjzHFQq0

Good day! Would you like to buy fireworks & support a local Renfest at the same time? You can go just west of Sand Springs (& Tulsa) to do just that. You can probably see some familiar faces at the same time. Help the Queensferry Renaissance Festival build up funds to bring excellent acts, maintain their grounds & pay for annual administrative items by buying things that go "BOOM" in the night (& day). Huzzah! https://www.facebook.com/events/1328177275961614?acontext=%7B%22event_action_history%22%3A%5B%7B%22surface%22%3A%22home%22%7D%2C%7B%22mechanism%22%3A%22attachment%22%2C%22surface%22%3A%22newsfeed%22%7D%5D%2C%22ref_notif_type%22%3Anull%7D

Tune in as I re-live my visits inside the gates in Oklahoma's Renfaire offerings this past spring. I also provide a few hints on how to improve Renfaires and give some hints as to what will is forthcoming from Meister's Realm this summer. What is "Sew Unusually Knotted". It is all spelled out in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NhyyMKoQ3BY

Good day. I am re-posting this link to a tour of different parks in Tulsa County that would be aptly suited to host a Renaissance Faire. If you have questions about any of them, prithee feel free to contact me at craig@meistersrealm.com If you would like to see them in person some Saturday or Sunday over the next month (before it gets hot), I can meet you & show you the different grounds. Tulsa is too big to not have its own Renfaire. If you could get 1% of the Metro population in the gates, that would be 8,000 - 10,000 patrons. That would be an amazing start! I know some people who would be willing to join the governing board and help put the event on as well. We can do this! Huzzah! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l6wdSba0848

Did you hear my interview with Dan Zielinski on Renfest Info And Fun podcast 2025 09? He runs the Planetarium in Jenks, OK. Well, Jenks Public Schools have decided to close their planetarium after this school year without hearing from the public or students. This is the Best planetarium in 3 states due to Dan's enthusiasm. The cost of its upkeep is much less than what Jenks spends on its sports programs and it serves all grades and the public. Could you please sign this petition to help keep it open? https://www.change.org/p/save-the-jenks-planetarium?recruiter=1173602455&recruited_by_id=4e6fa8f0-53c7-11eb-9205-7583bb47344e&utm_source=share_petition&utm_campaign=psf_promote_or_share&utm_medium=facebook&utm_content=fht-491187842-en-us%3A8&share_id=kBy4CbJygB

The Oklahoma Renfest returns this weekend for a 13 day run. A visit to it would be remiss if one did not see EZNDIL on the Hidden Grove Stage. If you would like to find out what makes them tick, tune into Renfest Info And Fun Podcast number 19 from last November. 'Tis hard not to laugh when you are in their vicinity. Their music is pretty good as well. You can find my podcast on Podbean, Amazon, Player FM, iHeart, Apple and/or Podchaser.
